Milanof-Schock Library in Mount Joy and the Susquehanna Stage Company in Marietta will be collecting brandnew socks and underwear for school-age (K-12) children in need who live in the Donegal School District.
The library and the theater group are accepting the donations on behalf of the Donegal Hub who is working in conjunction with Rainbow’s End Youth Services (REYS Youth Center) and its “Backpacks to School” campaign. Donations will be given to REYS to assist local families in need of these items.
People may bring donations to the library during regular hours until Saturday, Aug. 10.
The theater group will be collecting donations at the Marietta Center for the Arts throughout the run of Susquehanna Stage’s production of “Evita” and until Aug. 8. Donors can stop by to drop off items in the Gallery Stage during normal box office hours, when they come to see the show, or any time the theater is open prior to each performance (5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for evening shows and noon to 2 p.m. on afternoon shows).
The Donegal Hub is a collaborative effort by community service providers, educators, businesses, churches, individuals and non-profit agencies.
The Donegal area is isolated in many respects due to limited public transportation, access to medical, dental and psychological services. Unlike more urban settings, the Donegal community lacks some of the commodities of a larger town or city, but still has many of the same barriers to self-empowerment and independence.
The Donegal area has a rich history in benevolence and resolve to care for its community members. The Donegal Hub acts as a touchpoint to give the Donegal community an opportunity to continue this tradition of embracing our neighbors and sharing the prosperity and inclusivity the community was founded on.
