More than 100 people turned out on Friday, Sept. 20, for the “Pizza Wars” event held as a fundraiser for the student council at Elizabethtown Area Middle School.
Six pizzerias (Pizzatown, Babbo’s, Pizza Hut, Papa John’s, Metro and P&J’s) donated 10 pizzas each to the event; they were randomly assigned letter codes so participants would not know who made the pizza they were eating. Giant donated supplies including paper plates, napkins and water bottles.
Papa John’s was the winner for best overall pizza. Best sauce was Babbo’s; best crust was Pizza Hut and the best cheese to sauce ratio was a tie between Papa John’s and Pizzatown.
A committee of students had been working since July to plan the event. Proceeds go back to the students to help with planning events like dances and to go towards student council conferences.
