ECHOS Gets Second Staffer From VISTA

Elizabethtown Community Housing & Outreach Services now has two people working there as part of the AmeriCorps VISTA program.

VISTA was founded as Volunteers in Service to America in 1965 as the domestic version of the Peace Corps. It was incorporated into the AmeriCorps network of programs in 1993 AmeriCorps is a government funded volunteer program that provides individuals with opportunities to serve a one-year term in communities around the United States that are experiencing poverty.

The newest VISTA worker at ECHOS is Destiny Harbison, who recently graduated from Elizabethtown College with a bachelor of arts degree in sociology and anthropology. At ECHOS, her primary role will be to connect individuals seeking employment to local employers, developing job fairs and resources, and serving as the liaison between Elizabethtown College, Community Place on Washington, Elizabethtown Area Chamber of Commerce, and local employers.

Seema Tailor will be continuing at ECHOS for a second year with the AmeriCorps VISTA program. Her role focuses on community mobilization and volunteer coordination for the several programs that serve the greater Elizabethtown area.
