What’s the best way to move past a tight loss to a section opponent? Open the second portion of section play with a dominating win. What makes it even better? Doing it on Senior Night. That’s exactly things went for the Elizabethtown Area High School girls volleyball team on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
Hosting Solanco in Daubert Gym, the Lady Bears used a 4-0 run early in the first set to take control and go up 15-8. A 5-0 run gave them a 21-11 advantage later on, and Elizabethtown went on to score four of the last five points to top the Mules 25-12.
The Golden Mules, to their credit, didn’t fade away immediately, taking an 8-7 lead in the second. The Lady Bears responded with 10 straight points to grab a 17-8, eventually coasting to a 25-13 win.
Solanco again played well to start the third, briefly leading 6-4. Elizabethtown answered with a 5-0 run to go up 12-10, later scoring six straight to put its lead at 21-12. The Lady Bears capped the match off with four of the last six points from there, nabbing a 25-14 victory for the 3-0 sweep.
Sophomore Sydney Stewart led the way for Elizabethtown with 12 kills and 5 service aces. Seniors McKenna Dare and Krimson Dougherty each chipped in with 8 kills, while sophomore Kallee Locker finished with 6. Dare also had 6 digs. Senior Hayden Calaman had a game-high 36 assists in addition to 3 service aces, while her sister Haylee had 8 digs and 2 service aces. Senior Ashley Nyesmith led all players with 9 digs.
