After shocking Manheim Township to start the season, the Elizabethtown Area High School boys tennis team continued its impressive start with another victory.
The Bears hosted Susquehannock on Friday, March 15, in their only match outside of the Lancaster-Lebanon League. Despite playing under a different format (instead of the L-L’s four singles, three doubles setup, the match went with the Mid Penn Conference’s three singles, two doubles), Elizabethtown handled things nicely, winning 4-0 with the fifth game being halted due to inclement weather.
Junior Ethan Lown was dominant in singles, sweeping Andy Snyder 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Trent McBride took care of business as well, winning 6-2, 6-1 over Billy Lochte. Junior Nacho Bartolome had a tough game against Marin Thomas, barely winning the first set 7-5. The two had to go to a tiebreaker in the second after battling to a 6-6 draw, which Bartolome won 8-6.
Senior twins Chris and Jon Gartley were nearly flawless against Ian McDonald and Michael Watkins in doubles, cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 win. Senior Brecken Musser and junior Jimmy Overmoyer won the first set of their doubles game 6-5 over Josh Amara and Lucas Reck; they were down 5-4 in the second when a storm rolled in, canceling the rest of the match. Still, the Bears had enough wins to get the overall victory.
Now 2-0 on the season, Elizabethtown had another home match on Wednesday, March 20, against Garden Spot. The team will then go on the road to face Donegal on Friday, March 22, and Cocalico on Monday, March 25.
