A candlelight vigil is planned in honor of Blake Shearer, the teenager who died last year from injuries sustained in a beating in Elizabethtown Community Park. The vigil is to start at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 11, in the park’s amphitheater and is expected to last about half an hour.
All people who have experienced a loss are invited to the vigil, whether the loss was from violence, drug overdose, suicide, accident, natural causes or any other cause.
Shearer was beaten in the park on Aug. 6, 2018, by a man upset over loud music. He died on Aug. 10, 2018, in Hershey Medical Center. David Skalla, now 25, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and aggravated assault in June and was sentenced to 8 to 16 years in prison.
Shearer was about to enter his junior year at Elizabethtown Area High School when he was attacked.
