Elizabethtown Area High School has announced that seniors Jared Alvarez and Jacob Larison have been named commended students in the prestigious 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program. The National Merit Scholarship Program is a nationwide competition for recognition and awards conducted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
Commended students are recognized for the exceptional academic promise he or she demonstrated on the qualifying test used for program entry, which is the PSAT. Over 1.5 million students took the PSAT last October to enter this respected academic competition. About 34,000 students received the commended student distinction, which places them in the top 5% of the students who entered the program.
“Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation.”
