Volleyball suffered its first loss of the season in a nonleague match at Warwick that the Bears took to four sets (26-24, 25-22, 23-25, 25-18). The Warriors used 16 aces to drop Elizabethtown on Thursday, Sept. 28.
Elizabethtown led by as many as seven points in the first set, but Warwick used a 4-0 spurt to tie the game at 21-21 before going on to take the opening set.
Bri Eberly provided the Bears with 12 kills and three blocks. Julia Rathsam (38 assists, 3 aces) and Rebecca Epps (26 digs) also had productive nights for Elizabethtown.
For the first time in four matches, Elizabethtown returned home to Daubert Gym to play the Garden Spot Spartans on Tuesday, Oct. 3. Elizabethtown defeated Garden Spot 3-2 (18-15, 25-19, 25-22, 17-25, 15-13) on the road in their previous matchup this season.
The Bears went into the match leading Section Two with a perfect 5-0 record in league play. Meanwhile, Garden Spot came into the match having only lost to Elizabethtown.
In the pivotal match, Elizabethtown came out strong winning the first two sets before Garden Spot battled back to tie the match at 2-2. The Bears rallied back and took the final set to win the match 3-2 (25-18, 25-20, 14-25, 27-29, 15-12).
Like the match against Warwick, Eberly led the way with 16 kills and five blocks. Taylor Beeler (2 aces), Epps (24 digs) and Rathsam (53 assists) were Elizabethtown’s statistical leaders in each respective category.
The Bears have five games remaining on their schedule and four of them are home matches beginning with one against Ephrata on Thursday, Oct. 5.
The lone road game left on their regular season schedule is at Manheim Central on Tuesday, Oct. 10. The regular season finale is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 18, against Solanco.
