A man and a woman from Wrightsville suspected in the July 6 strong-arm robbery of an 89-year-old woman in a supermarket parking lot are in custody.
The suspects are Amanda Nicole Gill, 24, and Kevin Edward Deshong, 22. The Northwest Lancaster County Regional Police Department announced late at night on Thursday, July 13, that the two were identified after several tips from the public after seeing information released to the news media.
Police said no other people are believed to be involved in the robbery.
Police said the two are charged with robbery, criminal conspiracy to commit robbery, simple assault and theft by unlawful taking.
Police said the victim was loading groceries into her vehicle in the parking lot of Elizabethtown’s Giant food store at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, when Gill grabbed her purse.
The elderly woman held tight to the handbag and was dragged by the robber toward a waiting vehicle, according to Northwest Regional police. The robber got in the vehicle and assaulted the victim in an attempt to get her to release her grip on the purse as the vehicle proceeded to drag the victim through the lot, police said.
The victim let go of the purse and the vehicle fled onto Market Street, heading toward Mount Joy. She suffered injuries to her head, face, arms and legs and was treated at a hospital then released, according to investigators.
On Tuesday, July 11, police released surveillance video showing the vehicle used and the man believed to have been driving it as well as a description of the woman believed to have committed the robbery.
Police said in announcing the arrests on Thursday, July 13, that there were no other suspects besides Gill and Deshong. Police said the two suspects would be arraigned at central booking at the Lancaster County Prison later in the evening.
