In addition to the agricultural events and entertainment at the Elizabethtown Fair, the late August event includes three tournaments for adults and youth, including one new to the fair this year, and a drug awareness poster contest for youth.
On Wednesday, Aug. 23, beginning at 6 p.m., will once be the second annual Cornhole Tournament. The tournament will be limited to 30 teams of two people. American Cornhole Organization rules will be used, except as specified by the Fair. Boards and bags will be supplied by the Fair. Anyone who wants to preregister may mail names, entry fee ($10), phone number and email to: Elizabethtown Fair, P.O. Box 292, Bainbridge PA 17502. Once again a Horseshoe Pitch Tournament will be held on Saturday, Aug. 26, at 10 a.m. Premiums will be awarded for men’s singles at 40 feet, men’s doubles at 40 feet, women/youth’s singles at 30 feet and women/youth’s doubles at 30 feet. In addition, premiums will be awarded for senior singles at 30 feet. The youth division will include youth up to and including age 18. Senior singles will include men and women age 65 and older. Up to four double elimination horseshoe tournaments will be held. Horseshoes will be supplied by the Fair or shooters may use their own shoes, if desired. National Horseshoe Pitchers Association rules will apply, except as specified by Fair officials. Anyone who wants more information may contact Ken at 717-367-5316.
New this year will be a Buck Shot Tournament sponsored by Moo Duck Brewery. The tournament is open to youth and adults. The youth division will include youth ages 6 and up to and including age 18. It will take place on Stage 2 at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26. Anyone who wants more information may call Mike at 570-242-5658.
The Drug Awareness Poster Contest is open to students in kindergarten through eighth grade. All posters must be on 11-inch by 14-inch poster board and must be done in dark pens, markers or crayons. Posters must be neat and legible and will be judged on content and appearance.
Age divisions will be: Division 1: ages 5 and 6; Division 2: ages 7 and 8; Division 3: ages 9 and 10; Division 4: ages 11, 12 and 13; and Division 5: ages 14 to 18. Name, address and phone number are to appear on the poster back. Ribbons and prize money, ranging from $2 to $10, will be awarded to five places in each division. Posters are to be entered at the Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ Church on Monday, Aug. 21 between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. Entries will be displayed throughout the week.
