The Elizabethtown girls tennis team defeated Solanco on the road before returning home to win their two most recent matches against Manheim Central and Ephrata.
The match against the Mountaineers of Ephrata featured competitive doubles matches before Elizabethtown was able to finish off the victory in singles play.
Kaitlyn Smith and Maddie Musser formed the Bears’ top doubles duo and they dropped a tight match, 8-6. Emily Oyler and Claire Hackenberg won their doubles match, 8-6, as did Maddie Musser and Lauren Masser, 8-5.
Smith bounced back in singles play with a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Elizabethtown’s fourth victory came from Maddie Musser 6-1, 6-3. Hackenberg play in the only match that went to three sets, but she ultimately fell 4-6, 7-6, 10-5.
The Manheim Central match was another 4-3 victory for the Bears. In doubles, the Bears went 2-1 with victories from Oyler/Hackenberg (8-2) and Emma Musser/Masser (9-7).
The two teams split their singles matches with Hackenberg and Masser winning 6-4, 6-4.
Against Solanco, the Bears were able to take all seven matches in convincing fashion. The most competitive match of the day was Smith’s singles match, but she emerged victories 6-4, 6-4.
The team is in the midst of four straight matches on their home court. At the time of publication, the team currently sits in third place (4-1, 3-1) in Section One. Hempfield is in first place (9-0, 5-0) and Manheim Township (6-0,4-0) is in second place.
The Bears are 20-10 in doubles play and 12-8 in singles play. Smith, Hackenberg, Maddie Musser and Masser are each 3-2 in singles.
