The Elizabethtown Bears girls tennis team saw its season come to a close with a 4-3 loss at J.P. McCaskey.
Rebecca Long and Lauren Masser were responsible for Elizabethtown’s lone victory in doubles play as they won 8-6 on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
The Bears and the Red Tornado split the four singles matches with Emily Oyler and Maddie Musser emerging victories. Oyler won her match 3-6, 6-4, 10-7 and Musser won her match 6-3, 6-2.
The team finished the 2017 season with a 7-5 overall record and a 6-4 league record. After rattling off four wins in the first five matches of the season, the Bears finished 3-4 in the final seven games.
Their finish was good enough for sixth place in Section One. They were a game behind Warwick (7-3, 5-3) and Cedar Crest (6-4, 5-3) for fourth in the section.
Elizabethtown was 34-38 in doubles play throughout the course of the season and was 22-25 in singles play.
Oyler (5-2) was responsible for the best record in singles play and No. 1 Kaitlyn Smith went 4-7. Musser (6-5) was the only Bear beside Oyler to post a singles record above .500.
Masser (7-5) won the most doubles matches throughout the season and was one of two Bears to finish above .500. Emma Musser was 4-3 in her doubles matches. Claire Hackenberg (6-6), Long (3-3) and Oyler (6-6) were right at .500.
Elizabethtown did not qualify for the Lancaster-Lebanon team tournament, which was won by Manheim Township. The Blue Streaks defeated Hempfield on Tuesday, Oct. 3.
