A 17-year-old girl died in a crash on New Year’s Eve in Rapho Township, authorities said.
Hayley Clarke, of Mount Joy, died of multiple traumatic injuries, according to Lancaster County Coroner Dr. Stephen Diamantoni. Her death was ruled accidental, Diamantoni said after performing an autopsy on Tuesday, Jan. 2. Clarke was a junior at Donegal High School.
The adult male driver of the vehicle and two other passengers were injured in the crash, which happened shortly after 6 p.m. in the 1300 block of Lebanon Road in Rapho Township, near Manheim.
Manheim Borough police Chief Joe Stauffer said the vehicle went off the road and traveled into a detached garage behind a home at 1383 Lebanon Road (Route 72).
At least one person was trapped in the vehicle, identified as a Mazda SUV, according to officials at the scene.
The three injured people were taken to Lancaster General Hospital. Their conditions were not available the night of the crash, but all three were transported as trauma patients, according to Brett Hambright, spokesman for the district attorney’s office.
Hambright said first responders made efforts to save the teen but she died at the scene.
Police are continuing to investigate why the vehicle veered off the road. The Lancaster County Northwest Crash Team, the Lancaster County district attorney’s office, and the coroner’s office also are involved in the investigation.
