Marietta Borough Council President Glen Mazis discussed strategies for a meeting with Norfolk Southern regarding an easement the borough is seeking for the Northwest Lancaster County River Trail.
Mazis said at the Borough Council meeting on Tuesday, May 8, that the borough would need to negotiate with Norfolk to try to gain the easement.
He said Norfolk wants to close all three railroad crossings in Marietta. He said there is only one crossing it would be able to close — the one at Gay Street.
Mazis said the borough would offer that closure in return for an easement.
The borough is negotiating an easement with Norfolk Southern railroad to extend a path from Lancaster County Northwest River Trail to the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission’s boat launch.
The next Marietta Borough Council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12, at the borough building, 113 E. Market St.
Correction: The May 17 print edition of the Advocate reported erroneously that the easement would extend a path from the river trail to the Marietta Boat Club’s parking lot; it is actually to to the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission’s boat launch. What appears above is corrected.
