The Elizabethtown Advocate attempted to set up a debate between local incumbent state Reps. Dave Hickernell and Mindy Fee and their challengers, but Hickernell said they were both busy on the evening first proposed for the debate. Hickernell noted that he would debate his rivals in a 10-minute segment on WGAL-TV. The Advocate then emailed Hickernell and Fee to ask them to propose an alternate time for a longer debate, but got no response.
Hickernell, a Republican, is facing two challengers in the 98th District race: Democratic nominee Mary Auker-Endres and Libertarian nominee Jim Miller. The district includes the boroughs of Elizabethtown, Mount Joy, Columbia and Marietta and the Lancaster County townships of West Hempfield, East Donegal, West Donegal and Conoy, plus Londonderry Township, Dauphin County.
Fee, also a Republican, is facing Democratic challenger Suzanne Delahunt in the 37th District race. The district includes the boroughs of Manheim, East Petersburg and Denver as well as the townships of Mount Joy, Rapho, Penn, East Hempfield, Elizabeth, Clay and West Cocalico.
