Golf Tournament to Honor E-Town Businessman

The inaugural Bob Teufel Memorial Tournament will be held at Hershey Country Club on Monday, Aug. 27. In addition to golf on the West Course, there will be a fly casting competition, gin rummy and Texas Hold ‘em card games.

Teufel died in January of this year as a result of a freak accident. Golf, fishing and cards were his passions, so those interested in any or all of them are invited to come and join the celebration.

This event has been organized to honor him and celebrate his remarkable life. He was devoted to his church and his family, including his wife, Jean; four daughters; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His company, Teufel Associates in Elizabethtown, was a successful supplier of prosthetics and orthotics before his retirement and its sale to Hanger Inc.

Without any desire for personal praise or recognition, Teufel’s life was a life of service, to his orthotic and prosthetic patients, as a lay leader in his church, to Elizabethtown Area High School, tofellow members and staff at Hershey Country Cluband the Texas Blockhouse Hunting and Fishing Club, and to friends both old and new. For everyone, including strangers, he always had a joke to tell so he could bring a smile to their face and make their day better.

To honor and celebrate Teufel’s remarkable life, this event salutes his competitive nature, honors his legacy of giving and exemplifies his spirit of compassion and enthusiasm in all that he tackled in life, including fighting Parkinson’s disease since2004.

The fly casting event will be held on the pond in front of the 18th green of the East Course beginning at 10:30 a.m. The golf tournament starts at 1 p.m., and the card games follow a meal with a 7 p.m. start.

The golf entry fee is $150 and includes golf on Hershey West featuring Teufel’s favorite format – individual team 6-6-6, a tee gift, a putting contest, a post round meal and both individual and team prizes. All money raised after expenses will be donated in Teufel’s memory for Parkinson’s research at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

The entry fee for the fly casting and card games is $50 for each competition with prizes for first and second place. Gin rummy and Texas Hold ‘em card games will be run concurrently.

The deadline for entry and sponsorship is Friday, Aug. 17. Available sponsorships include participating sponsor, putting green sponsor, hole sponsor, green sponsor, fly casting sponsor and card game sponsor. Details for the event came be found at www. bobteufelmemorialtournament. com.
