At a recent meeting of Elizabethtown Chapter, Order of DeMolay, member Daniel L. Sellers was presented with the DeMolay International Patriotic Service Medal denoting his service to the United States of America.
Sellers, a 2016 graduate of Elizabethtown Area High School and DeMolay member since 2011, shipped to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., last June and spent 10 weeks there for basic training. From there, he continued to Fort Eustis, Va., for training as a 15U CH-47 helicopter repairer. On Jan. 31, 2017, he graduated as a private first class and was recognized as the Distinguished Honor Graduate. He currently assists the drill sergeants at the local Recruit Sustainment Detachment where he helps prepare new Pennsylvania Guard recruits for basic training by teaching them basic “warrior tasks and drills.” In the fall he is scheduled to begin attending classes at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove where he is hoping to be a member of the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps through the Pennsylvania National Guard.
In presenting Sellers with the Patriotic Service Medal, Past Master Councilor Tim Nevil explained that this is a new award that was introduced in November 2016 by DeMolay International Grand Master Bill Sardone as a way to recognize those in the DeMolay Family who are serving their country in the military. Patriotism is one of the cardinal virtues of the Order of DeMolay, and the medal is a tangible emblem that shows how important patriotic service to country and devoted service to DeMolay is to the worldwide organization. Sellers is the first DeMolay in Pennsylvania to be recognized with this distinctive medal.
