The Elizabethtown boys cross country team finished fourth while the girls team placed sixth at the PT XC-9 Invitational at Kutztown University on Saturday, Sept. 9.
The meet was the team’s first of the season and Christopher Scharf led the boys with a second place finish. Charles Scharf (8th) and Nat McCloud (20th) also earned individual medals. A total of 172 runners finished the race.
Sophomore Katie Locker earned a seventh place finish while Cat Shontz (12th) and Madeline Quinn (16th) earned individual medals as well. The girls side had 171 finishers finish the race.
Perkiomen Valley, ranked as the No. 3 team in Pennsylvania going into the race, was one of the teams that they finished in front of.
Four of the Elizabethtown girls took four of the top five spots to win a four-team meet at Hempfield on Tuesday, Sept. 12.
Sophomore Katie Locker won the girls race in 18:45. Freshman Madelin Quinn finished six seconds later. Cat Shontz and Kate Weissend finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
“It was really cool. We talked about it as one of our goals,” Locker told Steve Navaroli of LNP.
“Having great teammates is a big help,” Quinn told Navaroli.
The boys took four of the top seven spots. Elizabethtown and Hemfield were tied 29-29, but Hempfield won based on the sixth place finisher.
Christopher (15:50) and Charles Scharf (16:27) finished second and fourth, respectively. Nat McCloud and Jesse Myers placed sixth and seventh.
