Elizabethtown College has named Dr. Celestino Jose Limas as vice president for student life; he begins the position July 1. A former vice president for student affairs and enrollment at Heritage University in Toppenish, Wash., he replaces vice president and dean of students, Marianne Calenda, who retires from Elizabethtown College on June 30.
Limas brings extensive experience to the position. He has been an administrator in all aspects of college student life including residence life, international student advising, cocurricular programming, multicultural affairs, athletics, wellness and health promotion, counseling services, student government and religious life.
In addition to teaching college and university courses, he has overseen or worked closely with admissions, institutional advancement, financial aid, academic advising, faculty committees and boards of trustees.
“Dr. Limas brings an impressive range of experience to the college,” said Elizabethtown College president Carl Strikwerda. “We are extremely pleased that he will join our community in order to build on the excellent work that has been done by vice president Marianne Calenda for the last 12 years.”
Limas earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Iowa, a master’s degree in special education from the University of Nebraska and a doctoral degree in educational leadership from the University of Oregon. He has held positions in residence life, student affairs and in the offices of diversity at Vassar College, University of Redlands, Carroll College, Lewis and Clark College and Lafayette College.
