A 5-year-old boy who was hospitalized after being pulled from the Susquehanna River at Marietta has died.
Keaton P. Kershner died Wednesday, July 19, at the Penn State Children’s Hospital, Hershey, according to information provided by the Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Elizabethtown. The funeral home announced his death on Friday, July 21, and confirmed that he was the child who was pulled from the river.
He was born on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at Women and Babies Hospital, Lancaster.
He is survived by his father, Nathan A. Kershner, and fiancee, Danielle Palmeri, of Marietta as well as his mother, Emily S. Franze, and her boyfriend, Timothy Kershner Jr., of Maytown. Survivors also include grandparents, Barry and Sherri Geib of Mount Joy, Timothy Kershner Sr. of Elizabethtown, William and Diana McClellan of East Petersburg, Bruce Franze and Cindy Banzhof of Elizabethtown and Michael and Kathryn Palmeri of Brick, N.J.
Funeral services are scheduled for noon on Saturday, July 29, at the Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 N. Market Street, Elizabethtown, with burial following in Mount Tunnel Cemetery, Elizabethtown. A viewing is scheduled the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Marietta fire Chief Brandon Smith told LNP that the child was pulled from the water by family members the afternoon of Saturday, July 15, before emergency personnel arrived. He said the incident occurred at a campsite next to the Marietta Boat Club. He was taken to Hershey for treatment.
The event is being investigated by Susquehanna Regional Police, who have said they are not releasing information because the investigation is continuing.
