Elizabethtown defeated Ephrata 1-0 behind Caleb Gerber’s goal in the 36th minute on Wednesday, Oct. 11. The Bears maintain control of their destiny in their quest for a fourth consecutive Section Two championship.
Elizabethtown (13-3-1, 10-2-1) is 7-0-1 since they suffered a 1-0 loss at Ephrata (14-3, 11-3) on Saturday, Sept. 23. The Mounts, meanwhile, finished the season 5-3 after their victory over the Bears.
Heading into the contest, Ephrata would have won the section with a win or a tie against the Bears. In order for Elizabethtown to keep its hopes alive, the Bears had to defeat both Ephrata and Solanco.
Elizabethtown’s game against Solanco (1-16, 1-13) was originally scheduled for Monday, Oct. 9, but was postponed until Thursday, Oct. 12, due to rain. The Bears defeated the Golden Mules 11-1 earlier this season and will travel to Solanco for their regular season finale.
Coach James Sostack said that the team will approach the game against Solanco as they would any other game.
“More consistency and finishing opportunities. We’re not taking Solanco for granted. They could pack it in and they could cause us some problems. Never underestimate your opponent,” Sostack said.
